Notice of Meeting - Flood & Sewage Issues

Christmas and New Year flooding and sewage issues

The Parish Council is aware that there has been surface water flooding at several places in the village and wider Parish. We are also aware that Anglian Water are regularly attending the sewage pumping station at the Thorpe.
Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) will be holding a flood debriefing session with our Parish Council on Wednesday 6th January.
The Parish Council will raise a number of issues with HDC including the timing and seriousness of the flood Alerts and Warnings as well as the surface water flooding and sewage issues.
With the exception of the bottom of Meadow Lane (which local residents sandbagged as they have done before) we are not aware of any flooding from the river that could have affected any domestic properties in the Parish.
We are aware of the large full-width flooding in Manor Road, Old Pound Close (3 places), Daintree Way (2 places), Glebe Rd (cul-de-sac), Weir Road and Stepping Stones. The recurrent problem in the High St opposite Budgens was also noted. There was also flooding at the London Rd end of Marsh Lane and in St Ives and Hemingford Rds. All of these will be raised with CCC Highways who are responsible for the drainage which is clearly incapable of dealing with this intensity of rainfall that appears to be falling more frequently.
Please let us know if you experienced any other surface water flooding that directly affected your property or if you had any sewage back up problems. If so please email with details and photos, if available, by Tuesday morning.
Emails to Robin Waters, (Convenor of HGPC Environment Working Group) at robin.waters@hemingfordgreyparishcouncil.gov.uk . If necessary, phone Robin on 07833 901680 but emails are preferred.
