Hemingford Stores is Changing.

Hemingford Stores is Changing.

Vid, the owner of Hemingford Stores, has introduced us to Seelan Thambirajah, the managing director of the MSP & Noble Group who will be leasing the premises and opening a Budgens branded shop by Christmas.
Although final contracts have yet to be signed Vid and Seelan agreed that we can publish the following expected timescale. Contracts should be signed by mid October after which the store will remain 'as is' for 3 or 4 weeks until shopfitting can begin. The shop will close for a short period of about two weeks before opening with a completely new and reshaped internal layout in early December. The Post Office counter will be included.
During the closure there are plans to continue an alternative Post Office and newspaper service for customers.
Seelan has promised a much broader range of products with the Booker Retail Partner operation to include more fresh food and a large number of freezers with ready meals. Our Budgens should then be a more attractive local option than some trips to St Ives supermarkets and there is also an offer of sponsorship for Hemingford School.
All existing staff will be offered jobs on their existing terms but the new opening times of 7am to 9pm (8am to 8pm on Sundays) may require more staff as well.
The new Group already operate 15 stores from Cambridgeshire to Derbyshire including Premier branded shops in Godmanchester, St Neots and Cottenham.
The changes will not need any planning permission and they are not affected by the HDC listing of the shop as an Asset of Community Value.
We wish Vid a happy retirement and thank him for 18 years of valued service to our community. He tells us that he took a long time and some care to find an appropriate buyer for which we also thank him.
